Program Code: 3040
The Emergency Medical Technician college credit certificate is a limited access program and designed to train you to become an Emergency Medical Technician. This program is approved by the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of Health. Upon completion, you will be eligible to apply to take the state certification examination. Some weekend hours are required for clinical practice. Program content includes, but is not limited to, anatomy, cardiac care, medical emergencies, emergency childbirth, poisoning, shock, respiratory emergencies, and psychological emergencies.

Admission Requirements
| I. |
The following entrance criteria should be fulfilled and submitted to the EMS and Fire Science administrative office a minimum of one month prior to the scheduled class start date. These documents may be uploaded into the College’s application system or submitted in hard-copy format: |

A. |
18 years of age or older. You must provide copy of current driver’s license or State of Florida-approved identification. |
| |
B. |
A high school/GED® graduate (provide an official high school transcript showing graduation OR GED® scores). |
| |
C. |
Provide proof of any certifications that may pertain to the EMS and Fire Science programs. |
| |
| II. |
Completion of the following forms is required by our clinical partners and must be submitted directly to the EMS and Fire Science programs administrative office, located in the Public Safety Building, Room CC-102: |

A. |
HIPPA compliance documents. |
| |
B. |
Program-approved pre-entrance physical examination. |
| |
C. |
Immunization and vaccination history or declination form(s). |
General Information
| 1. |
Completed packets are date stamped upon receipt and a priority number is issued to your application based on the date the packet is received. |

| 2. |
Upon acceptance into the program, you will be notified regarding the date/time for the mandatory program orientation (typically one month prior to orientation). Failure to attend this meeting, or provide any required documentation, may cause you to forfeit your acceptance into the program. At the mandatory program orientation, you will be provided with directions related to the last requirements of the program: |

10-panel drug screening - As required by our clinical partners, all EMT students must submit to a 10-panel drug screen (at the student’s expense). The required date for the submission of these requirements will be determined by the program director. Students who fail the drug screen (positive test for a banned substance or inability to provide an appropriate prescription for other drugs) will be administratively removed from the program. |

Criminal background check - As required by our clinical partners, all EMT students must submit to a criminal background check. The method and required date of submission will be determined by the program director. Students with a criminal history will be required to submit documentation explaining any conviction of any crime. Please contact the program administration for a list of crimes that may prevent you from attending the EMT program. At a minimum, all applicants with a record of convictions will receive counseling from SFSC regarding certification and employability. |
