TSL 3243 - Foundations of ESOL - Second Language Acquisition

This course provides an overview of ways to teach English Language Learners (ELLs) from a variety of backgrounds and at varying English proficiency levels. It is designed to present information and skills concerning the education of ELLs as well as effective ways to communicate with their families. The primary focus is on the ESOL Domains of Communications and Applied Linguistics in second language teaching. A secondary focus is on Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). In addition, the requirements of the LULAC et al. vs. State Board of Education Consent Decree are presented and all students must meet with at least one ELL to complete course assignments.
