EDG 3442 - Teaching Strategies and Classroom Management

The general purpose of this course is to strengthen your understanding of the relationships among classroom environment, classroom behavior, and learning. Specifically, you will gain knowledge of disciplinary and management models and your relationships to degrees of teacher and student control. Activities, readings, children’s literature, discussions, and observations will focus on effective decision- making about classroom management and on developing alternatives for preventing and dealing with management and discipline problems. You will engage in three types of decision making related to management and discipline: proactive, interactive, and reflective. This course directly addresses the Florida Framework for Teaching Domain 2 (Classroom Environment), Florida Teacher Performance Standard 3 (Learning Environments) as well as several High-Leverage Practices. In addition to the teacher standards, the course addresses issues related to the Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards.
